Reader Question: Dog Suffering from Pain and Vomiting

I have a 3 year old Wienner dog who started having pain and then vomiting about a month ago. No diarrhea. He is eating raw eggs and baby food. I have had him to the vet. Blood work is good and x-Rays didn't show anything.

Veterinarian Suggestion

Hi Liz,

Did your dog have a fecal examination for intestinal parasites and/or infection at the time of her initial evaluation? These tests are an essential part of diagnosing any dog with gastrointestinal signs.

I am concerned that your dog is eating raw eggs. The symptoms you describe can be associated with a Salmonella infection, which may develop as a result of eating uncooked eggs.

Specific laboratory tests or even tissue biopsies taken from the gastrointestinal tract are sometimes necessary to determine exactly what is going on in cases like these. Talk to the veterinarian who performed the work-up on your dog. If he or she does not have a reasonable plan for how to move forward with this case, you can see a specialist who should be able to get to the bottom of your dog’s symptoms.
