Can Dogs Be Allergic To Cats?

I just got a new family member, we had her a week and she started coughing so we took her to the veterinarian. She put her on kennel cough medication just in case it was Kennel Cough. She had a kennel cough shot and tested negative for heartworm. She coughs more in the morning and when she gets excited. we are not sure what's going on. She sounds like a seal and she sniffs a lot and will occasionally throw up phlegm.

Answer From Our Veterinarian - Can Dogs Be Allergic to Cats

Hello,

Most cases of kennel cough resolve over the course of a few weeks. If a dog is still coughing after this amount of time, it’s quite possible that something else is going on.

Many of the signs you describe (the “seal-like” cough, for example) fit with a condition called collapsing trachea. Of course, many other health problems can cause similar symptoms as well.

Your veterinarian will need to reexamine your dog and possibly take an x-ray or run some other tests in order to diagnose what is going on with your dog and how best to treat it.

Regards,
