Our dog has cardio-myopathy and he recently has been drinking alot of water and then he stands trying to pee for up to 5 min. He can't go, but then when he falls asleep he empties his bladder.

Suggestions From Our Editor

It sounds like your dog is experiencing difficulty urinating, which can be a symptom of various health conditions, including urinary tract infections, bladder stones, and kidney disease. Given his history of cardio-myopathy, it's possible that his urinary symptoms are related to his underlying condition.

Increased thirst can also be a sign of several health issues, including kidney disease and diabetes. Since your dog has both increased thirst and urinary difficulty, it's essential to bring him to a veterinarian as soon as possible for an evaluation.

Your vet may perform a physical exam, run blood and urine tests, and potentially recommend imaging studies to determine the cause of your dog's symptoms. Depending on the underlying cause, treatment may include medication, changes in diet, and lifestyle modifications.
